Last year I heard about the concept of a hand roll bar coming soon, J/Wata Temaki Bar. I like hand rolls a lot so I was like ?. Fast forward to last week and I finally made my way over after seeing the soft opening sign in front of J/Wata.
I did a solo lunch so it was nice to have pretty much all the seating be at the Temaki bar.
The place is decorated with large murals and a funky lighting structure up above.
Order Up at J/Wata Tamaki Bar
I went all out and ordered the set menu “Go.” Seemed like a good way for me to try out a big variety, plus it’s the one that comes with lobster! Which ended up being my favorite.
None of that Soggy Stuff at J/Wata
At J/Wata they take their temaki aka hand rolls seriously. They will only serve you one of them at a time so that the seaweed is crisp and the rice is warm.
As I mentioned the winner in my book is the Maine lobster. The lobster itself was sweet and succulent. My least favorite was the scallop. I tasted too much mayo and it overpowered the scallops.
J/Wata offered a unique experience. I’d probably go back and bring a friend.
